Irish Hereford Youth events March 2021

The Irish Hereford Breed Society and Irish Hereford Prime are delighted to be able to get the ball rolling with activities for the younger members of the breed by hosting various relevant online modules & tutorials for Young Hereford Breeders in the coming weeks while Level 5 Lockdown restrictions remain in place.

The aim is to hopefully hold a physical event or events if government guidelines allow later in the year and if it is safe to do so but for now we are using the resources that are available while keeping personal health & safety to the forefront.

The Society are currently organising modules for the next few weeks that will be relevant and benefit young breeders with simple and effective tips that they can all use on their homes farms.

Upcoming Events:

To kick off; Shanon Kinahan – Professional Cattle Photographer will join the group on Monday 1st March at 8pm online to share top tips for taking a great photo of your animal and how to show them off in the best possible light. Shanon is no stranger to the world of cattle showing, being a pedigree breeder herself as well as photographing bulls and heifers at several pedigree shows, sales & on -farms around the country.

Following on from this, Alison Beattie from the Farm Wardrobe will be be joining the group on Monday 8th March at the slightly earlier time of 7pm to give a tutorial on on agri-promotions, advertising and branding. Alison will share top tips that everyone at home can use while using the ordinary & everyday resources to build a brand and promote onw livestock for sale while building relationships with buyers and keeping your name & quality product out there.

All Young Breeders Welcome!

All breeders and/or family members of breeders aged 30 and Under are more than welcome to join both on evening and we encourage all young people to join in and share your won ideas and thoughts with us too about what you would like to see happening or what interests you to get involved!

There will be other events in the coming weeks which we will share a little closer to the time when all details have been confirmed.

Next Hereford Youth Workshop

Will take place at the Balleen Herd, Freshford by kind invitation of Tom Brennan and Family on Saturday July 19th at 11.00am Sharp.

Loads of activities planned for the day before and after lunch.

Youth Workshop Balleen Herd

A sincere thank you to Tom Brennan and Family who hosted the event at their prizewinning Balleen Herd. Sincere thanks also to the well known Leo McEnroe who provided an enlightening experience for all those in attendance young and old. Leo has a wealth of knowledge and experience built up through several generations of McEnroe cattlemen.

Those in attendance came from a wide area and their presence is much appreciated. There is no doubt that all present gained much practical knowledge and advice and will hopefully put it into practise over the coming months at shows and sales. There were excellent prizes awarded and a very good entry in the stock judging competition.

An excellent BBQ of Irish Hereford Beef burgers was provided. The burgers part the LIDL Hereford range of cuts were sponsored by Slaney Foods processors of this quality beef. Eamonn Moulds (087 677 9567) representing Slaney Foods says that sales of the Hereford beef brand continue to grow week on week and that extra quality assured Hereford sired steers and heifers are required to meet demand.
