Charleville Show - 29th June 2024

Saturday the 29th of June held the annual Charleville Agricultural show. With more than 40 animals on display that day, emotions were high despite the unfavourable weather conditions. With the Hereford section surpassing all other sections on the volume of animals, Coote Geelan had the challenging task of judging. On that day, the Munster Hereford Branch sponsored the Heifer of the year 2024, with a prize money of €1,000. The stakes were highfor who would take it home. Gurtaleen Inchvale Betsy 2nd, took the winning sash. This November 2023 born heifer was bred by Michael Barrett. The reserve went to Neil Twomey with Ringfort 1 Aine 523. This December 2023 heifer was sired by Sky High 1 Take A Chance and dam Ballymartle 1 Aine 209. The overall Hereford Female champion was granted to Trevor Dudleys, Kilsunny Lass Olympia. This 2018 cow was the pick of the lot on the day. This animal was sired by Glaslough Judge and dam Kilsunny Lass Fluffy. Female reserve was won by Eoin Lynch, with his Droumdaniel Mel Bella 31122. This heifer sired by Auckvale Stroll on 1882s and dam Droumdaniel Mel Bella 3rd. Hereford Prime kindly sponsored the Hereford Bull 2024 class. Yet again the large classes made the final result very challenging. The luck continued with Micheal Barrett, as hisGurtaleen Inchvale Vinny claimed the winnings. This own bred animal was siredby Gurtaleen Inchvale Morgan and dam Doumdaniel Sally. The luck continued with the Kilsunny herd. As Kilsunny Vegas captured the reserve. Sired by Yarram Pompeii V055 and dam Kilsunny Lass Olympia. The luck was with the locals with Tommy and Maura Cregan winning both the Hereford Male Champion and The Overall Supreme Champion on the day. Coisciem King bred by Tommy and Maura Cregan was the pick of the lot on the day. This bull has continued success in the showing ring, with many championships won. Among the heavy mid-day showers almost 20young handlers showcased their skills and expertise in the ring, all judged by Peter Cooke. Every participant showed great talent, and we hope they continue their success in the ring in further.
