National Hereford Calf Show 2024 - Updates!

The National Hereford Calf Show 2024 will be held on Saturday 16th November at 10am in GVM Tullamore. As usual, it will be part of a bigger Hereford weekend, running alongside the Next Gen Herefords Finale Competition and the Genetic Gems Sale.

This year there are two major changes to the show in terms of sponsorship and class schedule.

Sponsorship:

We are delighted to announce that Irish Hereford Prime and Dovea AI have agreed to kindly sponsor the entire show as joint headline sponsors.

Schedule:

There have also been changes made to the classes – namely removing the September class and leaving every other class across a six week window.

Class 1: Heifer calf born on or between 1st November 2023 & 15th December 2023.

Class 2: Heifer calf born on or between 16th December 2023 & 1st February 2024

Class 3: Heifer calf born on or between 2nd February & 15th March 2024

Class 4: Heifer calf born on or between 16th March & 1st May 2024

Class 5: Heifer calf of the future born from May 2nd 2024 onwards.

Senior Female Champion – Class 1 & 2.

Junior Female Champion – Classes 3, 4 & 5.

Overall Female Champion.

Class 6: Replacement Index Class consisting of the Highest Replacement Index Genotyped bulls entered in the show. Automatic entry.

Class 7: Commercial Hereford sired calf, male or female not weighing over 450kg on the day of show.

Class 8: Dairy Beef Index Class consisting of the Highest DBI merit Genotyped bulls entered in the show. Automatic entry.

Class 9: Bull calf born on or between 1st November 2023 & 15th December 2023.

Class 10: Bull calf born on or between 16th December 2023 & 1st February 2024

Class 11: Bull calf born on or between 2nd February & 15th March 2024

Class 12: Bull calf born on or between 16th March & 1st May 2024

Class 13: Bull calf of the future born from May 2nd 2024 onwards.

Senior Male Champion – Classes 9 & 10.

Junior Male Champion – Classes 11, 12 & 13.

Overall Male Champion.

Prizes for classes 1 – 5, 7 & 9 – 13 as follows: 1st– €120, 2nd – €80, 3rd – €50, 4th – €25, 5th – €25. Entry fee: €15

Rules:

Entries close on Sunday 3rd November at midnight

All animals entered must be Pedigree Registered with the Irish Hereford Breed Society.

All animals entered will be weighed on the morning of the show;

Pedigree heifers in excess of 1.5kg/day + 40 kg birth weight and bulls in excess of 1.7 kg/day + 45 kg birth weight are not eligible for showing on the day

Commercial calves over 450kgs on the day are not eligible for showing and must have HE or HEX on their Card.
