The Annual Pedigree Multi-breed bull sale took place in Kilkenny on the 15th of May. An improvement in trade seen 80 % of the 21 Hereford bulls there on the day sold. Each bull entered the ring on a level basis as there was no show at this sale. None the less this still attracted a crowd, with the top price obtained being €3,400 and the average made €2,940.
On the day, top price of €3,400 was Lot 75 – Grianan Ace, sired by Grianan Parker bred by Anslem Fitzgerald, Co. Westmeath. This bull has five stars for docility across all breeds and 5-star Carcass Conformation among the Herefords. With three stars for Replacement Index across the board.
Not far behind was Michael Molloy’s Lot 66 – Moyclare Vergil, sired by Caislean Jake and was sold for €3,300 on the day. This July 2022 born bull has 5 star calving interval and docility across all breeds.
There were two bulls sold for €3,200. Lot 76 – Galbally Ollie 1833 bred by Trevor Masterson. This bull has a great display of stars, with a 5-star Replacement Index across the Hereford breed whilst he has 5 stars for docility and daughter calving interval across all breeds.
A 5-star replacement bull Lot 91 – Castlehale 1 Gary, sired by Fabb 1 Northern Star and bred by James Ryan, made €3,200 in the ring. This December 2022 bull has a high volume of stars across the board, with an additional 5 stars for Terminal Index within the Hereford breed. Furthermore, this bull has 5 stars for docility and daughter calving interval across all breeds.
