Pedigree Hereford Heifer Sale 2024

The Pedigree Hereford Heifer sale, hosted by three Munsterherds, was held on Saturday 13th July 2024 in Kanturk mart. The sale saw 40 females for sale with a mix of first calved heifers with calves at foot, incalf heifers and maiden heifers. All stock were presented for sale from Gurteragh horned and Drominairgle polled Herefords, Kilronan Herefords and Tullaha Herefords.

The sale was a successful day out with 60% of heifers being sold and the average price finishing at €2,700.

The top of the town was lot 13 – Drominarigle 1 Diana who sold for €5,800 to a breeder from Kilkenny. This February 2023 born heifer is sired by Churchcrosspoll 1 Hurler and bred from a Gurteragh Justice dam –Drominarigle 1 Annabella 810. Diana was crowned Reserve Supreme Female Calf Champion during the National Hereford Calf Show 2023. This maiden heifer has five stars for both the Replacement and the Terminal index along with being+6.7kgs for milk and +14.5kgs for carcass weight.

Lot 13 – Drominarigle1 Diana sold for €5,800

The second top price on the day was for the next lot 14 –Drominarigle 1 Scarlett 1073. This September 2022 born heifer was sired by Gurteragh Justice and bred from Drominarigle 1 Sydney 611, an F.H. Noel son. Scarlett is a full sister to Diana’s mother and a daughter of the best breeding cow in the herd. With five stars for the Terminal index and +12.8kgs for carcass weight, Scarlett was purchased by a Co. Down breeder for €4,000.

Tullaha Herefords also parted with seven of their tenheifers entered in the sale. A Cork breeder took a shine to lot 7 – Tullaha Lilly 442 with bull calf at foot Tullaha Ike and purchased the pair for €3,000.Lilly is sired by Riverrock Tyson and bred from a Rossmore Neslon Mandela daughter – Tullaha Lily 380. Lilly has five stars for the Terminal Index,+11.7kgs for carcass weight and +6kgs for milk. Lilly’s bull calf at foot was sired by Coisceam King.

Kilronan Herefords also sold a selection of heifers on theday. Lot 16 – Kilronan Wanda Tina Maria, born in September 2022, was sired by Allowdale Rambo 475 and bred from a Border General daughter – Allowside Kaitlin. This is one of the best heifers in the herd and has secured two Reserve Championships. With +11.4kgs for carcass weight and +7kgs for milk, Tina Maria was purchased for €2,500.
