Huge Crowd witness top bull sell at €5,200 and massive clearance of Heifers at Tullamore

BUOYANT TRADE FOR HEREFORDS AT TULLAMORE

With bulls to €5,200 and heifers to €4,350 there was buoyant demand for Herefords at Tullamore. The Irish Hereford Society’s Premier Autumn Show & Sale at Tullamore attracted one of the largest crowds to attend such an event in recent years.  Given the emphasis on carcase size and the success of the Hereford branded beef programs the increased interest in the breed is to be expected.

The sale itself got off to an immediate start with the first bull into the ring Boveen Lewis from the herd of Joe O’Connor, Sharavogue, Birr selling at €3,500.  Sired by Glaslough Esquire out of a home bred dam Boveen Stately 13th he was purchased by Jeremiah O’Reilly, Ballinadee, Bandon.  It was however Co. Westmeath breeder Padraig Farrell, Fardrum, Athlone who hit the jackpot on the day taking the Bull Championship and over €10,000 for this two entries.
