MEET THE YOUNG BREEDERS – SINEAD CONRY

Sinead Conry, hailing from Rathnollag Herefords, Roscommon is rearing a Hereford cross calf as part of the Irish Hereford Calf rearing Programme.

“From a young age, I have always had an interest in farming. I purchased my first ever suck calf with my Communion money and kept her as a breeding cow”, comments Sinead.

Sinead has always been passionate about Hereford cattle and started her farming career by going back to the basics by rearing Hereford cross calves while working to save up to purchase a Pedigree Hereford heifer. Sinead currently farms in her own right; Pedigree Hereford & Angus cattle.

Sinead also works off the farm as an Environmental Officer for the Kepak group. This young farmer doesn’t have a dull minute – if it’s not working on or off the farm you will find Sinead exhibiting at Summer Shows & Society sales – “Showing is very rewarding when you put so much work into getting an animal ready and they receive a rosette.” explained the 2019 Angus All-Ireland Senior Young Handler”. Sinead is also heavily involved in the Next Gen Herefords & the running of Young Handler events throughout the year.

Chosen Charity

Sinead’s chosen charity for the programme is the Elphin Day Care Centre. This centre is open daily and allows for the elder members of the community to meet and enjoy a social occasion. There are excellent services provided to the community including providing hot meals, a range of activities and day and over night trips.
