Demand Outstrips Supply at Breaney Herd Dispersal

Spirited bidding throughout the sale ensured a full clearance in record time with a top price of 4,100 and an overall average just a tenner under 2,500 for the cows, heifers and stock bull on offer.

Given current interest in the Hereford breed it was no surprise that there was a packed ringside from the off at Granard mart for The Breaney Hereford Herd dispersal. The herd on offer represented a lifetimes toil and endeavour by Henry and Kathleen Tynan, Breaney, Ardagh, Co Longford. Reluctantly offered for sale due to ill health and advancing years the stock have now found new homes at various destinations from south Tipperary to Donegal.

The herd carefully developed over the years through the use of the best bulls available through AI and natural service. Stock from the herd has been successfully exhibited at Society sales and at local shows and more recently direct from the farm to repeat customers. The successful Dovea AI bull Breaney Sam is possibly the best known from the herd. On offer were good honest, solid cattle offering potential to existing and new entrants to the breed.
