John Cregan is 8 years old and is a second class student in Scoil Mhuire National School in Broadford Co. Limerick. John lives with his parents; Tommy and Maura Cregan, his brother Peadar and his sisters Ellie and Molly. The family run the Tullaha Hereford herd which was established by Johns Great grandfather, James Neenan in 1971.

John started going to shows at very young age with his late Grandfather John Neenan and he began to show cattle himself in the young handler class for the first time in 2022, winning several red rosettes across the Summer.

John loves all things farming but he has a special love for Herefords. John knows the breeding of many of the Herefords on the farm and keeps a watchful eye over new born calves especially. Herefords are an ideal breed for young John given they’re so docile and easy to handle.

Johns’ favourite past times include playing GAA, Showing Hereford cattle and supporting the Limerick hurlers. John had some very difficult decisions to make this summer as he would have to decide between going to a show on a Sunday or going to watch Limerick on their way to win 3 in a row. As a result of some good decision making, he ended up having a very successful summer both in the show ring and in Croke Park.

Johns’ chosen charity is The Jack and Jill foundation. Jack and Jill is a nationwide charity providing in-home nursing care and respite support for children up to the age of 6 with severe to profound neurodevelopmental delay. This may include children with brain injury, genetic diagnosis, cerebral palsy, and undiagnosed conditions. Another Key part of the service is end of life care for all children up to the age of 6, irrespective of diagnosis.
