Ennis Mart – 30th March

In Ennis mart this week, there was a great trade as “Hereford bulls sold from €220/head up to €355/head. The heifers generally sold from €195/head up to €275/head. There was one Hereford heifer that sold for €395/head.

Kilkenny Mart – 30th March

Kilkenny Mart also saw a good trade this week, reporting a 99% clearance rate on Tuesday with many strong prices again. Hereford bulls peaked at €340/head and heifers sold for up to €330/head.

Some mart managers were noting that the lighter type Hereford calves have received a slight setback in price but strong prices are still being paid for stronger and quality calves with traditional breeding.

Bandon Mart – 29th March

There were 1350 Calves sold through Bandon mart this week with a steady rise in Hereford cross calves presented for sale.

The increased number of Hereford sired calves presented resulted in a slight reduction in price, which was to be expected. The going rate for three to five week old Hereford cross calves, both bulls & heifers, was between €170 to €240 with many of the top end of the calves making €360 also.
