Calves making €50/Head more compared to this time last year

Dairy-beef calves as a whole are earning €50/Head more than they did this time last year with strong prices being paid for early born 2021 calves.

There have been 20,000 more calves registered this year already in comparison with this period last year but mart managers can confirm that the demand is there to match the supply. Traditional beef-sired calves are reaching highs of €430.

There were 140 calves sold in GVM Kilmallock last Monday with the majority being beef-sired calves.

Hereford bull calves earned a top price of €385 with Hereford heifers selling for a top price of €380.

Most Hereford bulls & heifers were sold for between €220 – €320.

This is positive news for the Hereford breed and with Hereford bull sales just around the corner – it is a better time than ever for dairy farmers to invest in their next top Hereford sire & reap the rewards that is currently being seen in marts nationwide.

Irish Hereford Premier Bull Sale will be held in GVM Tullamore on 27th March 2021 – keep an eye out on this website for more details!
