There was a steady trade again yesterday in Bandon mart with over 700 calves for sale through the mart.
Cork marts have seen seen a firmer base price this week in comparison to this time 12 months ago.
The number of Hereford calves were on a par with the sale last week but there were more three-to-four week old calves out in comparison to this time last year. Bandon mart manager; Tom McCarthy told the Irish Farmers Journal that buyers “have a lot of confidence in this type of animal”.
Hereford bull calves sold for between €220 – €405 while heifers’ were also a good trade selling between €180 – €430.
Overall, more traditional bred calves just like the Herefords sold for between €230 – €320 than in recent sales.
There was also solid demand for export type calves which is very positive.
