It was a red letter day for Trevor Dudley & Family, Dovea, Thurles, Co. Tipperary at last weekend’s Clonmel Show (7th July 2019) with their well-known Kilsunny herd taking both supreme championship and reserve championship honours in a well-supported Hereford section.
The day’s supreme breed champion, under show judge, Nigel Heatrick who made the long journey down from Co. Monaghan, was awarded to the 4 year old senior cow, ‘Kilsunny Lass Lily’. ‘Lass Lily’ is well used to the winners enclosure having secured an unbeaten streak of four consecutive 1st prize wins in 2019 as well as her maiden inter-breed beef championship title earlier in the season too.
One of the youngest entries of the day, the 11 month old ‘Kilsunny Lass Prim’ stood in the reserve champion position, after clinching the Brackford Perpetual Trophy for the overall junior championship earlier in the show. This stylish youngster won her first major showing title last month after being crowned the junior heifer champion at the Slaney Foods International Finals in Gorey and was also awarded the reserve supreme breed championship at the Kingdom County Fair in Tralee on her debut onto the show circuit last May.
The other winners on the day included Trevor Dudley’s ‘Kilsunny Lass Orchid’ who won the in-calf heifer class, Trevor Dudley’s ‘Kilsunny Podge’ who won the senior bull calf class and Veronica Brennan & Ray Hunt’s ‘Herberry 1 Lucy Superstar’ who won the junior mixed sex baby calf class.
Also massive well done to Daniel, Seamus & Brian Farrell of Ballinveney Herefords who performed so well in the multi-breed young handlers class at the end of the show.
