The Munster summer show season continued at last weekend’s Cappamore Show in Co. Limerick with a strong entry of Herefords present across a wide range of senior and junior classes.
Trevor Dudley, Kilsunny House, Dovea, Thurles, Co. Tipperary secured the overall Hereford breed championship on the day with his successful show cow, Kilsunny Lass Lily. Just six days prior, this three year old cow had taken a 1st prize win at the National Hereford Show, Tullamore and has collected many championships and accolades this summer. She was also champion at Nenagh (from a field of almost 70 Herefords) and is bred from one of the most successful cow families to ever stand at Kilsunny.
John & Mary Johnston, Toomevara, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary won the reserve championship with their young bull calf, Farney Osmondo. This October 2017 born bull was the reserve Premier bull calf champion at Nenagh and was also a prize-winner at Ossory Show too. This bull is sired by the hugely respected AI sire, Gageboro Morgan and also won the inter-breed traditional breeds bull calf class at Cappamore; beating out stiff competition from the Aberdeen-Angus and Shorthorn beef breeds to claim his first inter-breed beef championship.
