A major Hereford championship was held on Sunday 2^nd of July at the Longford show with approximately 60 Hereford cattle scheduled on the show catalogue. The generous sponsorship provided by Paul and Vincent’s, manufactures of high quality animal feeds attracted breeders from around the country.

Local Hereford breeder and formers IHBS chairman JJ Farrell of Trillick Hereford’s deserves recognition for all the time and hard work he put in to organising the event, securing the sponsorship and also recruiting the two young judges, Mr. Ben Lewis and Mr. Andrew Whitlow from the UK.

Michael Farrell of Castledaly Herefords had a very successful day with his bull Castledaly Rio as he claimed Champion bull at the event followed by Supreme champion. He also returned home with some silverware to add to the mantelpiece when he was awarded the Eddie Duffy Cup for winning class 53. Castledaly Rio is one of many descendants of Steil Gerard, a very successful and proven sire bred by JJ Farrell.

Well known Hereford breeder Michael Molloy was in the spotlight when his class winner, Moyclare Ursula was crowned champion heifer on the day. Mick Molloy continued his winning streak winning the first bull class of the day with his 15 month old bull Moyclare Phoenix,  which also went on to claim overall reserve champion of the competition.
