Sponsors Slaney Foods International put Hereford Classes Gorey Agricultural Show into the Major League

 Hereford cattle have a long tradition in Co Wexford and have been exhibited at the Gorey show for many, many years.  The Hereford classes this year will receive a massive boost given the major sponsorship of the event by the very successful Wexford firm Slaney Foods International. by local Hereford breeder John Murphy, ‘Kiltennel Hereford Herd’ and the Gorey Agricultural Show Society.

Prizemoney runs to an impressive €2,500 provided through the generous sponsorship of Slaney Foods with two classes supported by local Hereford breeder John Murphy, ‘Kiltennel Hereford Herd’ and the Gorey Agricultural Show Society .

The expanded range of classes will include classes for cows, in-calf heifers and a range of male and female calf classes.  At the launch, this week, Eamonn Moulds Procurement Manager at Slaney Foods International which currently has major contracts for Hereford beef, stated that the company is very pleased to support this expanded local event and to be associated with the South Leinster Branch of the Irish Hereford Breed Society and the Gorey Agricultural Show Society, which holds its 157th event this year.

It is anticipated Hereford breeders from across the country will converge on Gorey to compete for the valuable prize pot.

Irish Hereford Society President John Neenan who was also in attendance welcomed the support of Slaney Foods for this expanded event. He continued stating that the Slaney Foods contracts were a very important outlet for Irish Hereford beef in a tough time for beef producers.  He complimented Slaney Foods on the quality of its product and its professionalism. The Hereford is fortunate he said that it meets the ideal carcase specification currently required by a discerning market.  Mr Neenan further stated that he wished to thank local Hereford breeder John Murphy for his valuable class sponsorship and the Gorey show for its co-operation and support of the initiative. He was he said hopeful that Hereford numbers exhibited would go from strength to strength in the years ahead.

Mervyn Parr (PH: 087 663 6665), Chairman of the South Leinster Branch of the Irish Hereford Breed Society said that Hereford breeders from far and wide would be approached to give their support to the event. Given the event takes place on the 18th of June next breeders will soon be selecting their animals in anticipation of forwarding their entries.
