The inaugural South Leinster Hereford Calf Championships were concluded in Iverk show on 22nd August 2015. The championship was sponsored by the South Leinster Hereford Branch and Chancellors Mills, Kilkenny. There were six qualifying show across the region (Gorey, Enniscorthy, Ossory, Tinahely, Tullow and Iverk). All qualifying animals accumulated points for prizes won as well as attendance at the shows.


The male and female calf championships were won by with ‘Knockduffpoll1 Ginger’ and ‘Knockduffpoll1 Emma Jane’ exhibited by Messrs Curtis and Jones, Knockduff, Bree, Enniscorthy, Co.Wexford . These two stylish calves are sired by ‘Ardlahan Ginger’ and ‘Glaslough Esquire’ respectively.


The reserve male championship went to ‘Clonroe Denis’, exhibited by Mr. John Jones, Pallas, Gorey, Co.Wexford . The reserve female championship went to ‘Tourtane Queen Lorraine’, exhibited by Mervyn and Henry Parr, Tourtane, Clogh, Castlecomer, Co.Kilkenny. The prizes were awarded at the recent South Leinster Hereford Branch meeting on the Ballyraggan herd of James and Hazel Thompson.
The chairman would like to acknowledge all exhibitors who endeavoured to show top quality Hereford cattle at South Leinster shows over the summer months. Also a special mention to all young handlers who participated in competitions over the summer.
