Government Minister for the Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys kindly took some time out from her busy schedule at the recent NPC to launch the 2015 National Hereford Calf show Schedule.
In commending the breed for its ability to fit the exacting specifications of today’s market she said the success of the Hereford branded beef schemes here at home ensured a greater return to producers, the maintenance of valuable jobs in the Irish meat processing sector and a top class product for the consumer available throughout the country. She added that given current exports of Hereford branded beef to Denmark, Finland and Italy together with a very significant penetration of the high class restaurant market across Europe ensured that Irish Hereford beef was acknowledged for its excellence which also reflected well on Ireland’s reputation and capacity to produce top class beef from its superior grassland.

The National calf show takes place at the GVM Show Arena at Tullamore on Saturday November 21st next. Entries close on Monday November 2nd. Sponsors include Area Branches of the Irish Hereford Society, ABP, GVM Mart Kilmallock, Slaney Foods International & Certified Hereford Irish Beef, Hugh Mulvihill Auctioneer, Agri Lloyd, Edwin Jones Riverside Herefords, Irish Hereford Prime, Certified Hereford Irish Beef, and the Irish Hereford Breed Society.
The event this year follows on the very successful similar event which was held for the very first time at the same venue last year when there were 94 entries. Classes have been expanded this year to include a class for a commercial Hereford sired calf male or female born in 2015. Classes also include a competition for young handlers which attracted huge interest last year.
The event is organised as last year by the North Leinster Branch IHBS. Schedule and entry forms are available on www.irishhereford.com, from the office or from 087/1632747 or 087/2702271.
