

There was a good crowd in attendance at the Udel Polled Hereford Production sale held on farm at Coole, Campile, Co Wexford. Though not as large as that seen at the recent Clearance sale in Kanturk it drew buyers from right across the country with the sale heavily influenced by customers from Northern Ireland, Scotland and the South of England
Top price UDEL 1 ALC Mayflower 1127 sold at €4,100 to Daniel Gallagher, Co Fermanagh. She was described in the catalogue as” out of one of the best breeding cows and with sires like WTK Bond, Circle D Wrangler and Nick the Butler in her pedigree she could be the pick of the sale” So turned out. Daniel Gallagher also purchased Udel 1 Mayflower with some similar bloodlines at €2,800.
William Andrew, Arranview Herd, Auchincruive, Ayrshire, Scotland purchased Udel 1 BC Fijian Gem a Kidman Blue Chip daughter at €3,800, UDEL 1 BH Garden Gem by stock bull UDEL 1 B1 Ben Hur at €2,600, Udel 1 BL Edible Orange a Yalgoo Boulder daughter at €2,600 and the yearling heifer UDEL 1 ALC Heavy Curly by UDEL 1 R51 A La Carte at €2150.
Udel 1 BC Frisky Curly another Kidman Bluechip daughter sold to Trillick, Co Tyrone at €3,250. The purchaser Daniel Conlon also bought UDEL 1 Honey Gem an 18 month old Ben Hur daughter at €2,450.
Anthony McCarthy, Banteer, Co Cork purchased UDEL 1 BC Floral Necklace also by Kidman Bluechip one of the youngest bulls ever to win the Australian Polled National Show and Sale at Dubbo, NSW. At €3,150 she joins a couple of previous purchases by the same breeder from the UDEL herd which are breeding very well in Co Cork.
John Nolan of Co Carlow purchased an Allendale Waterloo B50 daughter UDEL 1 WL Fairy Snowdrop in calf to Allendale Superstar at €3,200.
Michael McDonald Wexford purchased an Allendale Superstar daughter UDEL 1 SS Lovely Emma at €2,600.
UDEL 1 ALC Happy Melody a sixteen month old daughter of UDEL 1 R51 A La Carte was purchased by Ronan Kerrigan of Kells, Co Meath at €2,600.
Fergal Morohan, Boyle, Co Roscommon purchased two heifers including UDEL 1 WL Gayle by Allendale Waterloo a twenty one month old of size depth and style at €2,550.
The two youngest heifers in the sale UDEL 1 BH Mayflower 1270 and UDEL 1 BH Hippy Plumb aged just nine months sold at €1,800 each to Eric Humphreys, Newbliss and John Bass, Gorey, Co Wexford.
With a 78% clearance and a sale average of €2,567 it was a very satisfactory result overall.
