Following a tentative start demand and prices for Herefords surged ahead reaching a top price of €3,200, an average of €2,805, a 65% clearance and range from €2,350 to €3,200.
Judge for the event the well-known Tom Fitzgerald, Mount Temple, Moate selected as his Champion the Co Wexford bred Knockduffpoll 1 Power Ranger bred by Curtis & Jones of Bree, Enniscorthy. Exhibited in the ring by young Hereford enthusiast Niall Jones an up and coming young showman and son of the breeder he is sired by the very reliable Rathcor Ranger out of a homebred cow Knockduffpoll 1 Flower by Trillick Best. The price was a very satisfactory €3,150.
Local breeder Tom Brennan of Freshford exhibited just one bull on this occasion a son of his successful herd sire Gageboro Eugenic. Out of Balleen Miss Gladys 618 he sold at the day’s top price of €3,200.
Francis Scott, Rathdowney exhibited Knockfin Epson by Rathregan Redstar who found a new owner when the hammer dropped at €3,150. He is out of Knockfin Adelaid 614 a Moyclare Express daughter. KnockfinRover also exhibited by Mr Scott sold at €2,700. Sired by Fortregal Wright he is out of another Moyclare Express dam Knockfin Adelaid 609.
Moyclare Lucrative a 16 month old twin exhibited by Michael Molloy, Belmont Co Offaly sold at €3,050 a very satisfactory price given that his twin a bull has been selected and sold into the Gene Ireland program at €5,000. The Sire Brocca Saviour a Bowmont Storm A584 son is herd sire at Moyclare. The dam is Moyclare Dora a Yarram Pompeii V055 daughter.
Local breeder Christy Finn who provided the champion at the March sale exhibited Bawngarriff Luke a Ballydowel Glynn son out of Bawngarriff Maudie selling at €2,700.
The Reserve Champion shown by Philip and Catherine Smyth, Navan was Ardmulchan Jameson by UK import and herd sire Westwood Uplifter out of Ardmulchan Rose by Clashagad Ben. His price at €2,550 was a little disappointing but otherwise did not dampen what was an excellent result for Herefords on the day.
The Society has sales at Nenagh this Saturday 19th and at Kilmallock on Friday 25th.
